Scotland’s bid to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045 took a major step forward with the signing of a ground-breaking agreement between the Scottish Government and the North East Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage Alliance (NECCUS) at Holyrood. Led by Scotland’s energy minister, Paul Wheelhouse MSP, and NECCUS CEO, Mike Smith, the meeting formally committed the Scottish Government to backing the alliance. In doing so it will help drive forward the country’s decarbonisation programme by enabling the capture of carbon emissions by major industrial emitters, first from Scotland and later from across the UK.
